Copper Canyon Mexico Hotels & Resorts

The Copper Canyon (Spanish: Barranca del Cobre) is a group of canyons consisting of 6 distinct canyons in the Sierra Tarahumara in the southwestern part of the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. The overall canyon system is larger and portions are deeper than the Grand Canyon in the neighboring United States although the Grand Canyon is larger than any of the individual canyons.[1]

The system is transversed by the Chihuahua al Pacífico railroad, known by the nickname “Chepe”. It is both an important transportation system for locals and a draw for tourists.

Sierra Madre Express, Copper Canyon

Thirteen-hour scenic train ride that travels through eighty-seven tunnels and over thirty-nine bridges of the spectacular Tarahumara Sierra.

Attraction type: Tour; Scenic railroad

Mexico established the Parque Nacional Barranca del Cobre (Copper Canyon National Park) to showcase this remote area.

The canyon is the traditional home of the indigenous Raramuri (Tarahumara) people.

“Loved Copper Canyon-Beware Camp David”

Barrancas Del Cobre (Copper Canyon)

Copper Canyon train tour was excellent way for our vacation as we are not into hiking or driving in unknown situations. Scenery was magnificent, came away with magical memories of the country and the inhabitants of the area. other travelers were friendly and shared their knowledge. Food was excellent-and I'm a very selective eater. Would recommend travelers to use travel agencies to book.
Camp David being primative is an overstatement. Animals were in the lodge and not domesticated. Cook/servants spoke only spanish. No phone service available to guests. Transportation was limited to owners farm and the train station. Had to leave for train at 4:30 a.m. to meet 6 a.m. train. Suggest all travel arrangements be in writing before leaving home. Pay only by credit card! Alcohol available in abundance free-other beverages were depleted and not restock frequently. NO Locks on guestrooms. Nebraska cowboys/girls have higher standards than Camp David!
Would not recommend Camp David to any one for any reason! Hotel in Los Mochas was cheaper for two guests per night and translators available and nearer to train station and airport.
