“Very nice atmosphere with good food”

Bistro at Casa Catherwood

Five of us ate here on our last trip to Merida. There is no air conditioning, but a nice breeze blows through the entraceway where we sat and Luca put a fan across from us to give a little more air movement. We were quite comfortable and it was hot when we were there. The table ordered a carafe of white and a carafe of red table wine; both were very good. One got the chicken parmegiana; he said it was excellent with good breading and a sharp red sauce; one got the chaya lasagna ( I tasted it and it was sooo good I wished I had ordered it) and three got the eggplant parmegiana which was good but probably the least favorite in that it had a white sauce not red. All in all, we had a very nice time and the prices were reasonable. We would go back. The restaurant is a little hard to find but well worth it. It is just south of the Santiago market, about one half block to the west. It would be a long walk from Centro proper but a very short cab ride.
